Details

Few mountains exert as much fascination on climbers in all disciplines as the 4000 of the Alps. The giants of ice and rock beyond the symbolic line of 4000 meters of altitude like the Matterhorn, the Jungfrau, the Gran Paradiso, the Mont Blanc, the Grandes Jorasses are the dream and the goal of any mountaineer a little bit ambitious .

The Austrian climber Karl Blodig was the first to climb every 4000. With the publication in 1923 of his book The 4000 of the Alps, become a classic of alpine literature, it has inspired generations of mountaineers. Reissued many times, the book is here completely redesigned and updated thanks to the writing of two passionate Alpine enthusiasts and the images of famous mountain photographers: 61 summits and 244 routes are presented. The result is a beautifully illustrated and well-documented book that is just as easy to read as it is to prepare new racing projects or to remember moments lived: maps and sketches make it possible to visualize the topography of the places and the layout of different ways; technical and practical information provide information on the difficulty of such a rocky, mixed or snowy route as well as on the conditions of access to shelters; without forgetting the story of the fascinating history of the golden age of mountaineering, from the first ascents to the present day.

An essential work for any alpinist eager to satisfy his passion and fascinated by the splendor of the summits.
