Details

The Inntal cycle path is the perfect guide for discovering the Tyrol region and its natural, cultural and culinary riches: stretching for a total of 520 km, it is one of the longest cycle paths in Europe. The route is divided into five daily stages, starts at the Maloja Pass in Switzerland, and crosses the Tyrol to Passau, while remaining faithful to the Inn.

The Inntal cycle path follows the banks of the Inn. This green blue river, which has its source in Engadine, descends to Passau. The diversity of the route is all its richness: you cross little visited areas, you discover old cities and their market and you have the opportunity to attend and, perhaps, to participate in the cultural and sports events proposed in the region .

The Inntal cycle path, part 1, of the Maloja Pass in Innsbruck, is about 230 kilometers long and takes you through an impressive alpine panorama. All around, the mountains of two and three thousand meters rise, and between the two, pretty Engadine villages nestle against the slopes. After the partially solitary and unspoiled areas of the Swiss Engadin, the Austrian Inn Valley awaits you with castles and monasteries. Only the Inntal motorway in Tyrol sometimes disturbs the idyll of green alpine meadows with its associated brown cows. For the moment, the capital of the Tyrolean province of Innsbruck will be the end point of this trip, which you will absolutely have to continue until Passau - with the help of the second volume of the bikeline series.

Characteristics of the itinerary

length
The length of the Inn cycle path, which runs from the Maloja Pass to Innsbruck, is about 230 kilometers.

Road quality and traffic
The quality of the path on the Inn's cycle path is suitable for all bicycles, except for racing bikes - a large part of the route takes unpaved forest roads, partly in combination with slopes.
The trails are partly gravelly or sandy and rather bumpy. From the Maloja Pass to St. Moritz, the route passes partly on the main road, but still along the Inn.
In Switzerland, you will encounter particularly steep descents, which can be dangerous because of the flooring and in case of rain or snow. At the time of snowmelt, there is a risk of flooding
for certain sections of the route. In order to avoid them, you will find other suggestions in the maps and explanations of the text.

Marking
From Maloja, the Inn's cycle path in Switzerland is marked by the red signposts and the blue adhesive "Inn-Radweg, n ° 65". These signs accompany you to Martina / Vinadi. From there, there is only the possibility of taking the road to Austria. In the Tyrolean Inn Valley, the Inn's bike path is consistent with the Routennr. 1 marked.
