The peninsulas of Chalkidiki and the island of Thassos are rightly referred to as pearls of the northeastern Aegean. The Chalkidiki is with nearly 3.000 km ² after the Peloponnese the second largest peninsula of Greece. Their three fingers projecting into the Aegean offer landscapes that Greece otherwise does not have in such a small space: flat coastal plains with extensive sandy beaches or rugged cliffs, rolling hills and rocky mountainous regions.
Kassandra, the westernmost of the fingers, has curved forms, endless sandy beaches, fields and pine forests. While their "mountains" reach a height of just 350 m, they reach Sithonia, the middle finger, up to a good 800 m. It is characterized by rugged, z.T. karst landscape and rocky coves. Over 2000 m, the easternmost finger, the Athos, rises to this day as a self-governing "monastic republic".
Also Thassos, northernmost of the Aegean islands and only a few kilometers from the mainland, shows on only 400 km ² area different faces. The mountainous interior with over 1000 m high peaks and old pirate protection villages invites you to hikes, as the flat coasts with their numerous sandy coves and former fishing villages.
The tours in this guide offer a wide range of different routes in Chalkidiki and the island of Thassos, with their scenic beauties, their interesting flora and fauna, and historical witnesses. Your bow spans from shorter walks for families to longer, difficult tours in rough mountainous areas. Some routes can be combined to longer day trips or a multi-day hike.
Every hike is described exactly. The colored map sections and meaningful height profiles as well as the GPS tracks support the hiker with orientation on site. The numerous color photos arouse the desire to discover nature and landscape in the north of Greece even before the trip.
