Logically this guide comes in the wake of the series that describes the Pyrenees mountain, from west to east from the Pic d'Anie. It redraws the 1967 edition translated from the Spanish edition of 1958. We can say again, like the guide of the area Aure and Luchon, it's "a long-term work" courageously developed by André Armengaud - already co-author of the previous - and Agustin Jolis and increased over the pyrénéistes generations.
Things have inevitably changed since ancient times. Around immutable mountain glaciers melted (but still remain!), Roads, trails and various tracks were created, shelters have been built and others improved. ski resorts have appeared. The type was much enriched for hikers. Cards have become precise and detailed. GPS happened ... The climbers discovered the huge limestone cliffs of Peña Montañesa and its satellites, the Peña de Sin and other walls. Beautiful climbing routes now plying the South face in good Granite Peak Abadias (satellite Maladeta) and limestone of the Forcanada. In addition, the area encompassing the Posets and Maladeta massif was declared Natural Park in 1994 by the Cortes of Aragon (3/1994 Act of 23 June). It therefore lasted two of the highest mountains of the Pyrenees. It occupies an area of 33,267 hectares between 1500 and 3404 m (Pic Aneto) and is located on the municipalities of Benasque, Gistaín, Montanuy, Sahun and San Juan de Plan in the province of Huesca. The Park House is located in Benasque and provides useful information to the visitor.
